Important: Get Listed in the Open Source Directory

IMPORTANT UPDATE! Lycos just added support for the "Open Source Directory (previously known as the "Newhoo" directory)" to their search engine in mid-April. This new feature lists matches found in categories and web sites from the Open Source directory before listing relevancy ranked pages from the Lycos database.

In addition, the Open Source directory is now used by Netscape NetCenter and other search engines may adopt it in the future. It's critical you add your site to this new directory as soon as possible to ensure better visibility on these major engines.

To suggest your Web site for inclusion in the Open Source Directory follow this link:

Navigate to the category that best applies to your Web site, and then click the Add URL link at the top of the page. This works much like Yahoo's submission feature. Make sure your site looks sharp, and has good content before submitting it for review and only submit your "home page."

A "volunteer" editor will then visit your site and decide if it's of a high enough quality to be listed in the directory. Because Open Source is staffed by an all volunteer editorial staff experienced in a particular category, one of your competitors may be the editor reviewing your site for inclusion!

If you're interested in becoming an editor in your area of expertise, follow this link:

Note: Apparently the integration of the Open Source database has contributed to Lycos's inability to index pages quickly for the last few months. If you've submitted to Lycos and have not been indexed, don't despair. You're not alone. We learned that Lycos plans to add pages to their live search database sometime in May.
