Open Directory Submission Tip

A customer sent me the following e-mail he received from HotBot last month:

"HotBot uses the Open Directory for most of its directory listings, but it does not currently use the Open Directory's Shopping section. I see that you are categorized under Shopping: Gifts: Wedding: Unique Items, and since we do not have any Open Directory sites under Shopping you do not appear in our directory. We may begin to use Open Directory's Shopping sites in the future. In the meantime, you may want to see if you fit in any of the categories we do support."

Therefore, if you wish to be included in the Open Directory (www.dmoz.org) links on HotBot searches, you will want to try getting indexed in a category other than the shopping category (or in addition to the shopping category).

For more tips on submitting to Open Directory or HotBot, see the Page Critic feature in WebPosition.
