Why does the WebPosition Page Critic recommend I

This is a common question particularly from users new to WebPosition Gold. The recommendations and suggestions given by WebPosition Gold's Page Critic are based upon statistical AVERAGES of top ranking pages. Used effectively, these suggestions and tips can do wonders for a page's position. But, the suggestions made by the software are far from being the only solution to a top ranking page.

There are an almost infinite number of combinations that can produce a page that ranks well. Any number of variations in the tags, body text, and so forth could produce enough relevancy "points" to push the page to the top for a given keyword. However, if competition for your keyword gets fiercer, and your ranking drops, then you'll want to refer back to the Page Critic's advice for further tuning of the page. Some of the advice that was not necessary for the page to rank well at first may become needed later.

If your page already ranks in the top 5 and you're satisfied with that listing, then we generally recommend you leave the page alone even if the Page Critic has more suggestions that you've not yet implemented. Tinkering with the page at this point could certainly move you to the number one slot, but it also holds some risk of slipping in rank. It's generally best to invest your extra time into other keywords where you're not yet ranking in the top 10 at all.
